I’m a Sofia-born and raised artist, based in Amsterdam, working with a variety of media to create context-aware installations, which combine sculpture, video, sound, text, and drawing. Additionally, since 2015 I have been working on an ongoing curatorial project, resulting in a series of exhibitions. I treat the exhibition format here, as a media to expand on my on-site research.
I’m currently studying at Sandberg Institute, in the Dirty Art Department. My previous education includes BA from Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, BA in Photography from the National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts in Bulgaria. Part of my itinerary was an Erasmus program at Central Saint Martins in London.
Having to change different social contexts a main interest for me is the unstable state of meta-modernity, where my body is located. What are the traces left, under the circumstances of collective anxiety, induced by the shared belief in a threat of the uncertain future. I explore notions of presence and representation, distribution, dissemination, thinking as working and special relationship we have with things. Context is the central material where dematerialised properties lead to new material states.
This constructed reality materialises social processes into things by sculptural means. Organised to be displayed, the material relations takes physical space through site-specific installations. The non-referential context shifts to utilising existent functional sites, taking their means as content. This exhibition format, as proposed, serves as an investigation of alternative ways of contextualising work and delegated performativity as a consequence.
Through the concept of documentation, I explore the transformation of three-dimensional work to two-dimensional reduced surface.
